Westerlund 2
位在船底座之內、離我們20,000光年遠的年輕星團與恆星形成區Westerlund 2，佔滿了這片宇宙視野。這幅使用哈伯可見光和紅外光相機拍攝的引人讚嘆影像，用來慶祝哈伯太空望遠鏡在1990年4月24日發射升空的25週年。這個星團擁擠的明亮大質量恆星， 大約分布在10光年的區域。來自這些年輕大質量恆星的強烈恆星風和輻射，把此區域的雲氣和塵埃，雕塑成一根根回指星團中心的恆星誕生之柱。而環繞在星團亮星四周的紅點，則是仍然包覆在胎雲和塵埃繭裡的黯淡新誕生恆星。不過，散布在影像各處的明亮泛藍恆星，可能不是Westerlund 2星團的成員，而是位在這幅哈伯周年慶影像視野內的前景恆星。 |
